Pay by Bank: Declines & Error Messages Explained

This article covers every decline and error message you may see when paying with Pay by Bank. Each section explains what the error means and what you can do to resolve it — so you can get back to checking out as quickly as possible.

If you see an error code on screen, find it below to understand what happened and how to fix it.

Section 1

Insufficient Funds

Your bank account does not have enough available funds to cover the transaction.

B104

Your bank account has insufficient funds to complete this transaction.

When you place an order, Pay by Bank checks your available balance. Your balance must be greater than the order total for the transaction to go through — an exact match is not sufficient, as your bank needs a small buffer above the purchase amount.

What to do

  • Add funds to your linked bank account and try again, or
  • Use a different payment method to complete your purchase.

B106

Unable to check bank account balance. Please try again.

Pay by Bank was unable to retrieve your current balance from your bank. This is usually a temporary issue.

What to do

  • Wait a moment and try your transaction again.
  • If the issue continues, choose a different payment method.

Section 2

Account Status Issues

Your Pay by Bank account or linked bank account requires attention before you can complete a transaction.

B105

Your bank account is unlinked.

Your bank account has become unlinked from Pay by Bank. Some banks do this automatically as a security measure.

What to do

  • Go to your Pay by Bank account settings.
  • Find your listed bank account and tap Relink.
  • Once relinked, retry your transaction.

Your account is temporarily suspended due to an outstanding balance.

A previous Pay by Bank transaction was returned — similar to a bounced check — leaving an outstanding balance on your account. Pay by Bank will be unavailable until this is resolved.

What to do

  • Use an alternative payment method for your current purchase.
  • Your Pay by Bank access may be reinstated automatically once the outstanding balance is cleared.
  • If you have questions about your account status, contact Dutchie Support.

F092

Your Pay by Bank account has been temporarily placed on hold.

Your account has been temporarily placed on hold due to a number of recent transaction attempts. This is a precautionary measure and is not a permanent restriction.

What to do

  • Use an alternative payment method for now.
  • Try Pay by Bank again later — the hold is temporary.
  • If the issue persists, contact Dutchie Support.

F094 F101

ℹ  Why does this happen?

These limits are a normal part of how Pay by Bank works and apply to all accounts. They are not a reflection of anything you have done wrong. Waiting a little while and trying again — or using an alternative payment method — will always get you through checkout.
