Pay by Bank: Account Setup

Pay by Bank: Account Setup

Everything you need to get started with Pay by Bank — from signing up and linking your bank account, to finding a participating dispensary and placing your first order.

Signing Up

How to create your Pay by Bank account

How do I sign up for Pay by Bank? +

You can sign up from your Dutchie account or directly at checkout. To sign up from your account:

  1. Go to Dutchie.com and sign in.
  2. Click My account (desktop) or the avatar icon (mobile).
  3. Select Bank Account.
  4. Click Sign Up and follow the on-screen prompts to link your checking or savings account via Plaid.

You can also sign up at checkout — if the dispensary accepts Pay by Bank, select Pay with Pay by Bank and follow the prompts to link your account.

What bank accounts are supported? +

Pay by Bank connects to checking and savings accounts and is supported by 95% of US financial institutions. Supported banks will appear in the Plaid flow when you sign up.

The following are not currently supported:

  • Prepaid cards
  • Neo-banks (such as Chime)
  • Non-USD/CAD accounts

If your bank doesn't appear during signup, or you see error code F102 or E001, your institution is not currently supported. Try linking a different account or use an alternative payment method.

My bank account won't link even though my credentials are correct. What should I do? +

Some banks ask you to approve data sharing during the Plaid linking flow. Make sure both Profile Information and Statements are checked when prompted. If data sharing is not enabled, the link will fail.

If the error persists, try the linking process again and ensure data sharing is enabled. If you're having trouble logging into your bank itself, contact your bank directly — Dutchie does not have access to your bank login credentials.

Finding a Dispensary

Where can I use Pay by Bank?

How do I find a dispensary that accepts Pay by Bank? +
  1. Go to dutchie.com and enter your city, state, zip code, or full address in the search bar.
  2. Click Start Shopping or hit Enter.
  3. Use the filters on the left-hand side to select Accepts Pay by Bank.
Can I use Pay by Bank at every dispensary? +

Pay by Bank is available at participating dispensaries only. Not every Dutchie-powered dispensary has enabled it. Use the filter on Dutchie.com or ask your budtender to confirm Pay by Bank is accepted at your location before placing your order.

Placing Orders

How do I use Pay by Bank in store? +
  1. At the dispensary, scan the Pay by Bank QR code.
  2. Log in to your Pay by Bank account.
  3. If it's your first visit to that dispensary, show the budtender your barcode or have them enter it manually to link your account to the store.
  4. Your order will appear on your phone. Add a tip if you'd like, then tap Confirm.
  5. You'll see a confirmation that your payment was successful.
Can I add Pay by Bank to an online order after I've already checked out? +

Yes — if you placed an online or mobile order and didn't select Pay by Bank at checkout, you can still switch to it before your order is fulfilled. Look for the Pay by Bank button in your order confirmation email or SMS.

Important things to know:

  • You must switch before the dispensary finalizes your order at the register.
  • This is only available for online/mobile orders — not kiosk orders.
  • The Pay by Bank button only appears if the dispensary has both Pay by Bank and order confirmation emails enabled.

As with any Pay by Bank order, ensure sufficient funds remain in your account until the charge posts — generally the next business day after your order is completed.

When will the money come out of my account? +

Pay by Bank does not debit your account at the moment of purchase. Your account is charged one business day after your order is completed at the dispensary. You may not see the charge appear immediately — ACH payments are not instant.

To avoid any issues, keep the full purchase amount available in your account until the transaction shows as posted in your banking app. If you shop on a weekend or holiday, the charge may not post until the following business day.

For ecommerce orders, a balance check occurs both when you place the order online and again when the order is finalized at the register. For in-store orders, the balance check only happens at the register.

How will Pay by Bank appear on my bank statement? +

This can vary by bank, but Pay by Bank transactions generally appear with the name of the dispensary where the order was placed, along with "Pay by Bank" or a combination of both.

If you see a line item that includes "RETRY PYMT", this is not a new charge — it's an attempt to collect payment on a previous transaction that failed. Learn more about retry transactions.

Are there any fees for using Pay by Bank? +

Dutchie does not charge any fees for signing up or using Pay by Bank. However, individual dispensaries may apply their own payment processing fees. If you have questions about fees on a specific order, contact the dispensary directly.
